flyLAL carried 40% more cargoes

Airline flyLAL announced 40% increase in cargo transportation volumes in April, if compared with the same period last year. After privatisation of the company, it is the first record quantity of cargoes transported so far During April alone, 151 tones of cargoes were transported – it is nearly half of the quantity achieved by flyLAL during the first three months of this year, when 331 tons of cargoes were carried.

“Increasing the fleet of airplanes and extending the flight geography, air company flyLAL increased cargo transportation capacities by three times in its summer timetable flights in 2008. New flight season launched in the end of March brought about evident results. When stagnation can be felt in the cargo transportation market, and volumes of cargoes transported in Vilnius Airport significantly decreased, our cargo volumes were growing in both first quarter and April”, said Director of flyLAL Cargo Department Ms. Lina Rutkauskienė.

According to her, development of cargo transportation services is a direct reflection of general economic situation in Lithuania. According to preliminary data, in May volumes of cargoes exported from Lithuania decreased by about 20%, but the volumes of cargoes imported into the country increased by nearly one third. Results achieved in May are still under estimation, but total volumes are expected not to decrease.

According to Ms. Lina Rutkauskienė, cargo transportation service provided by the flight company is used by a growing number of clients because of the key advantage offered – delivery time. Beside, cargo transportation service was substantially improved by cargo operations system eCHAMP installed. It enables clients to track their cargo movement. Having entered cargo waybill number on the website www.flylalcargo.com, both consignor and consignee can find the location of their cargo.

According to Director of Cargo Department of the airline Ms. Lina Rutkauskienė, flyLAL occupies increasing share in the Lithuanian cargo transportation market and this business field is becoming more and more important in the Company's activities. Growing cargo transportation volumes are planned to increase incomes of the company by up to 90%.
